Okay, this is a rather remarkable program, and many people have no idea it even exists.
The Cincinnati Parks Foundation (with the assistance of the Duke Energy Foundation) will give you free trees, if you would like to plant more in your yard.
You just need to fill out this “Fall ReLeaf 2019 Tree Application” form online. This form makes sure that:
- You live within Cincinnati city limits
- The trees you plan will be either visible from the street or within 30 feet of the right-of-way (planting between the street and sidewalk, or in back yards, does not qualify for free trees)
- You take into consideration wires, utility boxes, or anything else that could impede or complicate the growth of the tree — consider the size of the full-grown tree when you select your spot for planting
Staff from the Cincinnati Parks Foundation will inspect the location where you propose to plant, and if your application is approved, you will pick up your sapling from 3215 Reading Road on October 19, 2019. *Deadline to apply is 10/4/19.
The program began in 1988. In the more than thirty years since it began, the Cincinnati Parks Foundation has given out nearly 20,000 trees.
The Fall ReLeaf project involves a whole range of tree types. The people giving away the trees can donate smaller or larger trees depending upon the needs and logistics of the specific location.
Trees are known to reduce stress in humans. They can also lower your energy costs, and make the air in your yard cleaner. In some cases, the addition of trees can boost the financial and resale value of your property.
