An important part of maintaining tree health is to act preemptively. Preventive tree maintenance can be like medicine for your trees, that can save you and your family countless headaches later on. And because tree service is part of proper landscaping, it’s important to see the big picture that is your yard.
But what should you look for to indicate that your yard has arbor issues?
The tree roots are damaged
Check around the base of each tree, and the ground around each base. If you see decay or damage, then the tree may be uprooting, and may be losing the support it needs to stay upright. If you see a gap between the ground and the tree, this is evidence that the tree has begun leaning – or that the tree was already leaning, but that the angle of the lean has become more severe. Either way, this is a cause for concern. A professional tree company can test to see if the roots are rotting, or if an insect infestation has damaged the tree’s base.
The cracks have gotten thick
Many tree trunks have cracks and crevices running up their length. These are not always dangerous. However, if one of these cavities has gotten too big, then the tree will not be able to survive it.
The lean is getting more pronounced
If the angle of one of your trees appears more severe than you remember, this is a telltale sign. If it’s starting to lean more, it could be evidence that the entire tree is dead, or approaching death. This is not always the case, but it definitely merits a visit from a professional, to ascertain the health of the trunk and the whole tree.
