Trees are great! Obviously, we think so – here at Tree Images, we’re committed to helping you care for your trees and keeping them healthy and beautiful for a long time. But some trees are simply less work to maintain in good health than others, and these are some of our favorites that hit that perfect balance between lots of beauty and not a lot of maintenance.
(Not all trees listed here are suitable for all geographic areas and all climates, so make sure to check with your local tree care company or a professional arborist before planting any of these beauties. Here in Cincinnati, give us here at Tree Images a call, and we’d be happy to advise you.)
Crepe Myrtle
Crepe (or Crape) Myrtle trees are bushy trees that have both beautiful summer flowers and gorgeous fall color. They grow well and easily in the right environments, and the biggest problem most people have with their crepe myrtles is over-pruning them (so don’t do that).
Dogwood
Dogwood trees are mostly known for their gorgeous flowers in the spring, but these trees are hardy and low maintenance, too. They grow beautifully and require little to no pruning unless their branches get damaged due to wind or weather.
Magnolia
Magnolia trees are definitely best known for their huge, fragrant flowers in the spring and summer. Magnolias can’t offer the stunning fall foliage of some others on this list, but that’s because some varieties keep their waxy green leaves all year (can we say less raking?). They require only minimal pruning, too.
Japanese Maple
Japanese Maple trees are particularly renowned for their gorgeous foliage in the fall. Along with that stunning autumnal beauty, it’s great to know that these trees are easy to maintain and keep healthy (in suitable environments).
Redbud
Redbuds are lovely trees for your yard because they have beautiful spring flowers (I’m sensing a theme here) as well as beautiful foliage in the fall. Plus, they are drought and heat resistant, and they don’t grow excessively large, which means they are both easier and cheaper to maintain over time.
Crabapple
Crabapple trees tend to get a bit of a bad reputation because they are known for producing fruit that is inedible (by people, at least). But these hardy trees have beautiful, fragrant blossoms in the springtime, and while some varieties do produce ornamental fruit, other types produce edible apples, while others don’t have fruit at all.
Flowering Cherry
Flowering cherry trees are some of the most iconic and best-known suburban trees. Their prolific springtime blossoms in white and pink create a pop of springtime color in yards across America. The way their blooms cover the ground like springtime snow when they fall is particularly lovely. Some varieties of flowering cherry trees stay quite small, so they can be an excellent choice for a smaller space.
Purple Leaf Plum
Purple Leaf Plum trees have (surprise, surprise) purple leaves in spring and fall, with green leaves throughout the summer. Their springtime blossoms are a beautiful pink or white, and the seeds of these trees are popular with squirrels and birds. These trees also tend towards the shorter size, which makes them another great choice for smaller yards.
There are so many lovely, low-maintenance trees varieties that it just makes sense to populate your yard with some of those that are appropriate for your climate and region. Save yourself some headache and expense by choosing your garden trees wisely. And call us for all of your tree maintenance needs in the Cincinnati area, large or small.
