When it comes to the regular care and maintenance of your trees, pruning is one of the most important (and sadly, most neglected) elements of tree care. But how can you know which is the best time to prune your trees? First, it’s important to remember that pruning your trees AT ALL is more of a priority than trying to get the pruning done at one specific time. But, if you want to optimize your efforts for the best possible outcome for your trees, the best time to prune is in the late fall or early winter — after the tree has gone dormant for the winter, but long before any new budding or growth can begin in the spring. But remember — pruning at all is better than skipping it because it isn’t the “best” time. So, the best time to prune your trees is in the late fall or early winter, and the second best time is any time at all!
